Fiction, [ca. 1881].

A dozen booklets of fiction, containing short stories, plays, and satires (ca. 1881), most written and/or illustrated by Ned Perce. Other names appearing on the volumes include E. Pritchard, Captain Starbuck, Lieutenant T. Mark, and E.T. Ellis. Most if not all of the names appear to be pseudonyms for one or two people (the last names Ellis and Starbuck are those of prolific dime novel authors from this era). The booklets themselves, as well as the stories and illustrations they contain, are in the style of the popular dime novel. The illustrations are pen and ink, some in color. The collection includes a short satire, with color caricatures, on the life of James Garfield.
